OKC Streetcar to Stage Emergency Response Exercise

EMBARK and First-Responders to Test Emergency Preparedness

Oklahoma City – EMBARK will hold a full-scale, emergency training exercise from 10 - 11 a.m. Friday on S Hudson Avenue between Oklahoma City Boulevard and SW 7th Street in Oklahoma City. Crews will begin setting up at 8 a.m.

The exercise will focus on emergency response to an incident involving an Oklahoma City Streetcar and is being staged by the City of Oklahoma City’s Office of Emergency Management in collaboration with local emergency responders. It will involve a simulation of EMBARK’s crisis response plan and procedures and will help assure a coordinated, timely and effective response and recovery in the event of a major incident.

There will be significant law enforcement, fire and emergency service present during the exercise. In order to avoid any confusion, the public is being notified ahead of time. The exercise is closed to the general public.

During the exercise, access to S Hudson between the Boulevard and SW 7th Street will be temporarily unavailable. The exercise is expected to last approximately one hour.

Media Access: A media briefing will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. at Union Station at 300 SW 7th Street. Media should contact Michael Scroggins in advance at 405-837-9510 if they plan to attend.

The exercise will evaluate the effectiveness of the Streetcar Emergency Action Plan, along with the first-responders’ initial response, coordination, and ability to establish incident command.

Local agencies participating in the exercise include EMBARK, Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma City Fire Department, EMSA, and Herzog Transit Services. Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be observing.
